Ed C. for Model Number MGT8885XS01 Bottom burner doesn't heat. Glow element turns on but no gas turns on. Upper oven works, top burners on range work. Is Gas Valve the problem?
Answer Ed, The gas valve is not the likely issue. You most likely have a weak glow bar igniter WPW10324738. The igniter has to produce 3.2 to 3.6 amps when it glows to open the gas valve and ignite. If the igniter glows, but it has a orange or dull red color, it is not producing enough amperage to open the valve, it needs to glow " white hot" / very bright. If you have access to a "clamp on" ammeter you can clip it around one of the igniter wires and observe the amp draw when the igniter glows. Read More...
