Jan for Model Number MZD2766GEW Our Maytag refrigerator is 10 years old and the ice maker is making ice, dumping it correctly, etc. The problem is there is a build-up of ice forming below the ice maker like there is a drip from the back of the unit. My husband thinks it may be a water valve leak since the ice maker is working okay. Suggestions and/or part number please? Thanks!
Answer Hello Jan, If the ice maker D7824706Q hasn't got a set of contacts sticking causing an overfill, the issue will have to be either low water pressure to the water valve or a bad water valve. The water valve part number are dependent on the series number. The series number is actually the first two numbers of the serial number. If the serial number starts with a 10 or below, the two water valves are 12001892, and 61005626. If the serial number begins with 11 or higher, the water valve part numbers are WP61005627, and 61005626. You should check first to make sure the water is turned all the way on to the unit and the water line isn't crimped. It also isn't a bad idea to remove the water line from the back of the unit and place it in a plastic trash can or bucket and turn the water on to insure proper water pressure. If the water pressure is insufficient, since the water pressure is what closes the water valve, the valve will close too slowly and overfill the ice maker. Read More...
