Dale for Model Number wed5821swo

whirlpool dryer. heating element while running with the door open and the switch held would start to heat up and quit after 30 seconds. I looked at the element and it showd stress and ohms showd .1 I replaced the element and did the same thing with the door open with switch being held down. The element still turn off. My question is does the element cycle on and off or is this a thermostat problem. If so what does it look like and do I check it with a ohms meter. I have checked and clean all dryer tubing from lint. The dryer will dry light weight clothing but no towels or jeans.

Answer

Dale, does your meter have a temperature probe and setting ? The way you're testing is not proper. With the door open, you disrupt the airflow, both in and out of the drum and anything can happen. You need to disconnect the exhaust vent, select a heat / temp. setting and run the dryer empty for a few minutes, then check the temperature at the exhaust pipe at the back of the cabinet after a few heat cycles the average exhaust temperature should be in the range of 155 dgrs +/- 10 %. If that checks OK, then we need to look for and air flow problem in the dryer or vent system. Good Luck and Thanks
