I first turned off the breaker to the stove and double checked that there was no power to the stove, then I unscrewed the two machine screws at the back of the oven which held the element in place. I then gently pulled the element toward me and away from the back of the oven until the wires, which were attached to the element were visible. Be careful, if the wires pull off before you can grab them they will fall back through the hole and you will have to remove the back of the stove to reach them. This is what happened to me. It is not a major problem you just have to pull the stove all the way out and it adds an extra bit of time and effort to the process. My right side wire came out with no problem, it was the left side which did not have enough slack and pulled off. The new part works GREAT!
