There was clicking noise at the back of the fridge and condenser fan was turning on and off, in sync with the clicking noise. From youtube video from GE, it was the condenser fan failure leading to overheated compressor leading to controller pc board shutting on and off trying to protect the compressor from getting too hot. I replaced both the fan motor and the controller PC board and that fixed the problem. It took me 1 and a half hour. My mother-in-law GE refrigerator is working again.
