How to Troubleshoot & Replace Ge AP2031021 / WB44X173 Oven Broil Element

Order new part. 

Purchased a replacement coil for my original 1983 model built in oven. It came with a set of alternate screws to attach to the power leads but of course I did not that It notice that until after I tried for 30 minutes to get the originals back on. When I found the small clear bag with the other size screws, I removed the old ones and the new ones went on like a dream. New life to my 34 year old unit!! Thanks appliancepartspros.com 

Put in a replacement element. 

After receiving the new element faster than expected, we made the repair. Saved a few dollars that a appliance serviceman would have charged. 

I ordered the two elements and expected them to arrive within five days or so. To my surprise it only took one day for the parts to arrive. They arrived in boxes and the parts were in perfect condition. I easily replaced the elements and my wife had dinner cooked the same evening. Extremely pleased with my experience in purchasing the items. 

I went to the internet and found Appliancepartspros.com and it was a simple process of putting in the part number and a picture of the element came up. There was also a repair video that was most helpful in the replacement of the element, especially in how to secure the element wires when removed from the old element so they would not accidently slide back into the back of the oven. Watching the video gave me confidence that it would be an easy process to make the repair. 

Very east to replace take out 4 screws and attach new element 

Coming apart was easy. Locally the appliance supply wanted $68.72 + tax, received it next day from U Guys at a fraction of the cost. Now installing it was not so easy, attaching the wires proved to be quite a task. The old element had sheet metal screws in & out easy, this unit had tiny machine screws. To try an hold the two wires together and set the screw was quite frustrating. Atlast I used a awl to align the wires and used a small magnetic screw driver. I'm sure if I had removed the oven door access would have been much easier, but I wasn't going that route. 

It very simple. Removed the old one and installed the new one. 1. Screw drive 1. Socket 1. Socket handle These were the only tools needed. 

I replaced the broiler element.
