How to Troubleshoot & Replace Ge AP3414570 / WR02X10540 Lid Bumper

I found the fan motor appeared to be loose in it's mount allowing the fan blade to come in contact with the evaporator cover. I ordered the grommets and bumper, assuming that should fix it. When I disassembled the unit I found the motor shaft was loose in the housing so I had to order a new motor. 

I replaced all the mounts and bumpers on the 14 year old unit. Runs like new. 

Could have been either the fan motor or the relay assembly. It was hard to pinpoint, so decided to replace both: the fan motor and the start device+capacitor. The start device + capacitor were very easy to replace. The fan motor was very difficult to change because they assembled the cooling circuit in front of the fan assembly making it impossible to take it out. I had to replace the motor in place with an angled nut driver and working by touch, to get the screws out and back in, fitting my fingers and tools in between the gaps of the cooling circuit. Getting the wires into the slots of the fan assembly was also a pain without taking the assembly out. Very disappointing from GE to have assembled that fridge in a way to make it impossible to get the parts out for repairs.

I removed the old motor and grommets and fan. The videos from AppliancePartsPros were invaluable !!! Even if you just wanted to change the grommets, they have a video for that. I'm amazed at the amount of information and number of parts you have for thousands of parts for a multitude of different brands and appliances. I've used this company in the past. I recommend them highly. 

Replaced unit and related parts 

I ordered the part's needed to replace the evaporator bushings, fan,motor, foam duct and bumpers. Removed inside of freezer and back panel. Replaced parts and reassembled. Total time was about 1 hour. 

Replaced fan motor. Put hot water down drain tube and use compressed air to blow out dirt and debris in tube. the grommets replace if necessary. The job has not been done yet. Need some cold weather to put some food outside in the cold. so it does not spoil. 

Evap motor,both brackets, both bumpers,fan blade,front and rear grommets. 

Replaced the condenser fan motor. Was fairly easy after watching your how to video. The old motor was 12 years old. Hopefully this new one will last about that long..
