How to Troubleshoot & Replace Ge AP4980541 / WB39X10034 Waveguide Cover (Microwave)

Removed the old one, replaced it with a new one, plastic rivets were easy to pop out. 

Ordered cover wave guide and replaced. Solved problem 

I pulled out the old cover and slid the new one in. Super easy. 

Replaced waveguide cover 

Replaced the wave guide cover. Very easy, no tools required. 

When I received the necessary part and easily replaced it and it worked!!!!! 

Exchanged for new one, simple. 

After looking through some troubleshooting sites, I found that the mica cover for the wave guide could be the culprit. Apparently the cover can get coated with grease on the backside and that grease becomes a problem. I removed the cover and could see black spots where the magnetron was slowly burning a hole in the mica cover. I found your site and ordered the part and replaced the cover with a new one. Problem solved for less than $10. 

Replaced wave guid took 4seconds pried out w/fingernail 

Open microwave door and take out the old one and replace it with the new one. Need to be careful not to bend or rip the part which is easy to do. All is well for another few months till I have to order another one which I will do at this site. It was quicker and cost less than ordering at GE.
