How to Troubleshoot & Replace Ge AP5949272 / WR12X22148 Refrigerator Door Handle Kit

Took out old one, put in new one 

I was able to fix this myself and at a big savings getting the handle from AppliancePartsPros.com versus from GE...about half the price. I was asked at the time of purchase if I wanted to buy this brush (to clean the grids under the refrigerator) that was on sale and I said sure. Boy was I happy to get that brush. It is very long and I ran in back and forth under the refrigerator and got all kinds of dust off them. It wasn't just the dirt under the refrigerator, because I had recently moved my refrigerator and cleaned under it. Amazing what was on those grids and I hope it will help my refrigerator run longer. 

It was easy. I removed the old handle and placed the new one in its place. It involved only using the old screws. One had gotten lost but used a similar one in its place. I also received the part in just a few days. Very satisfied. Thanks.

I ordered the part from you. Received it a day and one half later. That service is outstanding.This old lady opened the package easiy,took it out and screwed it on the door. Thanks to you folks I had the right part and I could do it myself. I appreciate your help and expertise. 

Took the part off and recorded the model number for the fridge. Internet search shows up this place called Applicance Parts Pros and BEHOLD...simple as that I have a picture of the part I need and some scale (grid) that allows me to be somewhat confident that it is indeed the one. I check a couple other sources and none have a better price...some nearly 50% more. Might not like that I got/paid for both handles...what's the chances that both would get broken or fail but the freezer handle will stay in the box in storage just in case. Standard shipping got it there in a couple days and in minutes it is installed....couldn't be happier with the service received from AppliancePartsPros.com !!!!

Replaced both handles with the replacements sent from here. At first I wondered why I could only get the fridge and freezer handles together. After I replaced the fridge handle I saw the difference in the aged color of the freezer handle so replaced it also. Need a star wrench to remove and replace screw under tab on fridge door. All others are Philips head. Handles do not ship with screws. They do include a new covering tab for bottom screw on fridge. The old one will probably be damaged when removing to access screw on old handle. 

Repair was accomplished by contacting applince parts pros and talking to a representive. part was located and recieved in two days. installation was quite simple.. thanks a lot. bob speck 

Too bad the manufacturer of this appliance isn't as good as 'AppliancePartsPros!' The website points out that many people get good service with only standard shipping, stating that 'some' or perhaps even 'many' folks "get their parts in as little as two days." The refrigerator handles arrived at my home on the North Maryland-Delaware state line, in less than 24 hours! They're a perfect fit!
