How to Troubleshoot & Replace Ge AP2045284 / WH2X1193 Washer Tub Lock Nut

Hub nut was completely corroded, had to carefully drill and chisel off nut in pieces, still had to use a rubber hammer to loosen and remove remaining inner hub. Installing the new parts was a quick easy task. 

We had a hard time removing the big nut. Must have had some kind of lock chemical put on the threads. 

Replacing the tub bearing split ring and washer. Get a new one. Next day. Excellent costumers service. 

Found your site and with the repair and parts information provided and the help of your nice associate on the phone, I diagnosed and repaired the washer in just a few hours. The biggest challenge was removing the hub nut. You need a can of penetrating oil, a sharp chisel, a short handled ball peen hammer and lot of patience to remove this if it`s corroded on. A socket was no use.

Replaced tub seal gasket. Followed video closely (Thanks!). All was fine until reaching the tub nut which simply could not be removed with the tools available (including the suggested spanner wrench). Ordered a replacement for the nut and drilled holes in the frozen one until I could break it. It was then easy to remove the spin basket and get to the (rather obviously degraded) tub gasket. Replaced that and rebuilt the washer (using the video again). Was testing when I realized the lid switch was missing. I think the video omitted that detail on the reassembly! Removing the front panel allowed me to remedy that. Roughly $50 in parts/tools and all of my spare time over several days. Washer seems to be working fine after 6 loads. 

This was my first time working on a washer machine. I watched the videos on how to fix my problem on the website that's on Appliance Parts Pros have and it was explained good enough for me to complete the job. 

Replaced shaft drive and tube assembly, basically the transmission. 

I fixed by taking the washer apart... then I ordered all the parts from the appliancepartspros store and installed with no issues. 

The hub nut was impossible to remove with the spanner wrench, I had to cut it out by drilling into it and then chiseling the nut until it broke. When I finally got down to the hub bearing, it did not show any wear and it was also impossible to remove. The bearing housing appeared to be fused to the plastic tub. I felt I would do more damage in removing it and possibly damaging the tub which then would have to be replaced. There is no signs of water leaking it appears to be working fine at this point. Joe
