Peggy L Union , KY November 29, 2014 Appliance: General Electric Free Standing Microwave JVM1490WD003 The microwave door handle pulled off for the 3rd time!! My husband is very familiar with this repair having done it twice before. The only problem this time was the way the handle broke off with such a small piece of the handle left on the screw. There was not enough plastic left to hold onto even with needle nose pliers. So he had to use a small drill bit & break the tiny plastic piece off the end of the screw. Then it was just a matter of screwing the new handle on and putting the door back on. I have to say that we were extremely pleased to receive the part the day after I ordered it. A cook needs her microwave, especially on Thanksgiving. Read More... 2 People found this story helpful Do-It-Yourself Rating: Repair Time Estimate: 15-30 minutes Tools: Pliers, Screwdrivers

Paul A Hopkins , MN October 10, 2016 Microwave handle broke off I watched YouTube videos to learn how to remove the door and then replace the handle. I was comfortable to tackle the project by watching the videos because all doors might be slightly different. Also I recognized that the plastic clips will probably break through no fault of my own. I spent more time cleaning and degreasing all the components than repairing the handle. Be sure to give yourself lots of time to avoid frustration and feeling rushed. Helmut A Seminole , FL May 30, 2015 Appliance: General Electric Free Standing Microwave JVM1490WD003 Ge microwave door handle broke off Ordered the handle from AppliancePartsPros and it arrived a day earlier than estimated. Removed the door by removing the top grille then opening 90 degrees and just lifted off the hinges. Gently pried the metal bezel out with a butter knife and had access to one of the door handle screws. Had to remove the glass mounting assembly held in place by 6 screws and 8 of those damn plastic tab locks. Needed help from another person dealing with the tabs since they held the glass mount so tightly. Then it was simply replacing the handle, giving everything a good cleaning and reassembling.
