How to Troubleshoot & Replace Ge AP2617344 / WD24X10018 Piston & Nut Assembly

Using troubleshooting video, determined that piston and nut assembly should be checked. Upon removal, noted rubber piston was completely deteriorated and not functioning. Replaced it and a partially melted inlet cover and it is working great now. 

I bought a new piston nut and a valve body gasket and replaced the old parts and the dishwasher is good as new. Easy fix! I ordered the parts from appliancepartspros.com on a Friday afternoon and had the part by Saturday afternoon. I expected to wait a few days- or at least until Monday. Finding the parts on the website was easy once I had the model number for the washer. I used this site to get parts for my washing machine -another simple fix- and was happy to get the parts fast and cheaply. A great site! 

Replaced two parts - body valve & check assembly, piston and nut assembly; a one way rubber valve in the body valve and check assembly was broken - had to purchase the whole item; recommended to purchase at the same time was the piston and nut assembly - good thing because it needed to be replaced, too; it took a while to figure out what was wrong, but i am glad i did because i saved a lot of money fixing it myself; after i made the purchase i saw the note about replacing the piston and nut assembly - it was a saturday and i was able to speak with someone who modified the purchase so i could get both items sent for one shipping charge 

Googled a few possible causes of the leak and headed to appliancepartspros.com. The DIY videos here have always been spot on. I replaced the gasket insert and valve body gasket, but the unit still leaked. This time, I watched the dishwasher drain and traced the leak from the solenoid assembly. A search on this site, said a small washer WD8X181 (AP2038837) needed to be replaced. Waiting to receive the part and try again this weekend 

Reviewed fixes related to the issue on the Appliance Parts Pros website and by process of elimination determined that the check valve had failed completely blocking the drain output. Ordered the Check Valve and Body Assembly as well as the Piston & Nut Assembly directly from the site. The parts arrived as promised. Replaced the parts and the unit is now working like new. Great experience. 

With the $11.00 valve that fixed the problem 58% of the time. Viewed the video. It was a 15 minute repair. So far, no more leaks. Appliance Parts Pros are the only source I go to for appliance parts. Love the videos, makes the jobs much easier for the DIYer.

Replaced the piston and nut assembly. Video was very informative - was a 10 minute job. No more standing water after subsequent run.

Once I tore it down found the drain check valve, and both flapper valves had deteriorated. Replaced the Pump Motor body and assembly, the check valve, and both flapper valves. Reassembled, reinstalled; works great again!
