How to Troubleshoot & Replace Lg AP4436839 / 2W20017E Outer Door Gasket Clamp

Tipped the machine back removed the pump housing hoses. Unscrewed the housing, then removed the pump. I used jumper wires to run the pump out of the pump housing to confirm the failure. The shaft wobbled and made lots of noise. Ordered a new pump, put it in, ran the machine, operational check good. No leaks, no noise, clean clothes. It appears that these pumps have about a five year lifespan (at least in my house). 

Replaced with new door lock switch and replaced the outer door gasket clamp 

Replaced spider and tub gasket 

Found that water was leaking only when the cold water was on. Replaced the Water Inlet Valve Assembly. Also had evidence of water having corroded the spring at the bottom of the outer door gasket clamp, so replaced the door gasket clamp as well. Both were simple replacement repairs. The only reason it took as long as it did was working in such a small space and on a ladder/step stool (because our washer and dryer are on pedestals) and 3 of the hose clamps were rusted to the hoses (so I had a bit of cleanup to make sure the hoses and hose clamps were still okay). I was not able to find the expanding pliers I had previously purchased to get the door gasket clamp off, so I took a trick I came across on the internet using a wrench and a couple of cable ties, and that took a little longer to work out than it would have with the expanding pliers. Thanks to AppliancePartsPros.com for the advice on the phone before ordering and videos posted regarding the repair. 

Replaced tub gasket. The video for replacing the gasket was very helpful. The most time-consuming part was getting the gasket onto the inner tub with the lip on the tub and on the gasket. Had to fold back the gasket to better expose the lip and then push the gasket to get it to seat around the lip. This could be one improvement to make on the video. Just took my time and followed the steps. After ensuring everything was installed correctly the washer has been working great. 

Replaced both bearings and the shaft seal plus used new gasket on housing for the drum. Replaced drum with lg 3045er1017L which replaces older drum models ending in letter A,D and E. Lots of websites do not mention that the model L drum will fit your machine it does. My washer was model wm2450hra LG. My parts came fast and we’re correct as ordered from appliance parts pro. 

Overall, this was a great success! Ordered the parts from ApplicanePartsPros (New Hinge assembly and a new outer door gasket clamp). I really only needed the hinge but ordered a new clamp incase the old one broke during disassembly, a $7 insurance policy. Parts arrived the next day and I followed videos for a successful fix! 

Searched on Duckduckgo and AppliancePartsPros came up. Showed me the possible things to look at and I found a tear in the door gasket at the bottom. Watch video on how to remove and ordered parts. I decided to order the gasket clamp too since the original had some corrosion on it. Ordered on Friday after Thanksgiving and parts arrived that coming Wednesday. I watched the video again which was very helpful. My two suggestions. Put some lubricant, I used dishwashing soap, on the rim of the washer lip that the gasket goes around. It made it easier to install since I was having some problem without. Having another person available to hold gasket clamp in groove while stretching the spring was a big help. Also, my model had a screw holding the control panel on the righthand side which was not shown on video. Bottom line - great video and delivery. 

This was just one of the other parts needed to replace my spider. Replaced this part as it had signs of rust. Easy with a pair of pliers. 

I replaced the drain pump motor after verifying there were no blocks in any water lines. Also the pump motor was making a loud noise which led me to believe it was the culprit. I found that taking the front of this washer off to access the pump is really not that hard to do at all. It is a little harder to get back together, only because reattaching the outer door gasket clamp is a bit more difficult than removing it.
