How to Troubleshoot & Replace Samsung AP4442008 / DA97-06158A Refrigerator Lower Door Hinge Assembly

I replaced the Upper hinge cam riser and the lower door hinge assembly. My upper hinge cam riser was 85% broken up. There wasn’t much left of it. 

I looked up AppliancePartsPros.com and looked up 'Door stop', 'Upper Hinge Cam Riser', and 'Lower Door Hinge assembly'. It had a video on how to replace those parts which made it clear and easy. 

After reviewing the Video provided, I replaced the defective parts. 

Followed the YouTube video process and procedure to replace both the cams. Put frozen foods in ice chest for the duration of the work (about 20 mins) and a quick cleaning (about 15 mins). No loss of food. 

Replaced the entire lower hinge assembly. Unfortunately the cam alone is only available for the top half so you need to replace the entire hinge. Fairly simple repair, I think it took a lot more time to empty the refrigerator than to fix it. It is recommended to have a helper to fish the hose back in during reassembly. 

Replaced cam and holder. Hinge and stopper. 

Replaced both hinge assembly and cam riser. Very simple task. Removed power and shutoff house water. Removed ice containers and items stored inside door containers. Disconnected water lines at bottom of the door, then remove top hinge cover, disconnected three electrical connectors, one ground wire and three bolts holding upper hinge door bracket. Lift the door off the lower hinge bracket, placing the door on its side to gain access to upper hinge cam riser, removing screw along with old riser, securing new riser into place. Reinstalled door in reverse order of removal. Easier if you have someone feeding water hoses at bottom hinge while another holds the door, slowly lowering door onto the lower hinge. The start to finish was half an hour. 

We ordered our parts, based on other stories posted on the website. We received them in a timely fashion and set out this morning to attempt to fix it. I would say total time was about 30 minutes, carefully following the instruction manual for our fridge. We did not run into any problems. Very smooth process and glad to have saved the price of an expensive service call!! 

I replaced the bottom hinge and stopper. 

Called and got the parts. Repair was pretty simple, the repair guy wanted hundreds but this was easy.
