How to Troubleshoot & Replace Samsung AP5325135 / DC97-16782A Dryer Drum Support Roller Assembly

I replaced the turning support wheels and the tension spring and the noise went away. It was easy to get what I need from appliance parts pros. 

Based on the descriptions I saw online, the problem was probably a drum support roller. I ordered 4 just in case they all needed to be replaced. Using Youtube videos as instruction, I removed the top and the front. The front rollers were working ok. I then removed the drum and found that one of the back rollers had totally locked up. I replaced both back rollers. I would have replaced the front rollers too, just as a precaution but I couldn't get one of them off. Having metric wrenches would be helpful but all I had were adjustable wrenches. So I simply tucked the spare rollers away for future use and finished putting everything back together. While I had everything apart, I removed an amazing amount of hair, lint and cat hair. It works fine now and is cleaner than it's been in years. 

Order the new parts and replaced old ones with new ones. 

Replaced a wheel, it went smooth and stopped the noise. 

Replaced all four rollers and it solved the problem. One roller was completely worn down, a couple of others no longer were turning on the axle easily. 

I took my dryer apart and took the damaged wheel off and put the new one on. I watched a couple of do-it-yourself YouTube videos prior to the repair. 

Removed exhaust tube and reached in with a short 12 point 11/16th wrench to remove nut and work part free. It was tight. Loosening the tension on the belt helped. 

Replaced all drum rollers and lint fan which was packed with lint. Replacement rollers did not have same nut size so had to keep switching sockets. Needed adjustable wrench to fit behind fan motor to get nut off. New lint fan was not a tight fit on shaft so hopefully loctite will hold. Did not want to remove rear panel to replace rear rollers so used wrench behind panel to hold the nuts. Cannot use gloves in these tight sheet metal spaces so be careful of the cuts. 

After taking it apart and inspecting the wheels, we found that the bearing was bad and it had been rubbing metal to metal. 

Replace support wheel.
