How to Troubleshoot & Replace Samsung AP5325135 / DC97-16782A Dryer Drum Support Roller Assembly

Using the video on this website, I was able to properly disassemble the dryer and determine what failed. One of the bearings on the rear drum roller was seized and the roller itself was jammed between the drum and the rear bulkhead causing the noise. I took the time to inspect the other rollers and belt before ordering any parts. Ordered the two rear drum rollers overnight and they arrived next day as promised. Installed the parts and dryer is working as designed. I have used this website and their instructional video before to replace the heating element. It has saved me from having to purchase another dryer multiple times now. Great website and service provided. 

I disassembled the dryer and removed the drum. Inspection of the 4 drum rollers indicated that one of the rear rollers was defective (the shaft was scored and the roller was unable to move freely on it) I decided to replace all 4 rollers (which come with the mounting shafts), along with the idler assembly for the belt. I would have replaced the belt as well but it was unavailable at the time of my order and we needed to get the dryer working ASAP. This completely fixed the issue and the dryer sounds like new. 

This is an anticipatory order. The noise is from the rollers that support the drum on this front-load machine. I will replace the parts (and the drive belt) when it is closer to failure. As usual, I received what I ordered quickly and painlessly. The only nit I might pick is that, if I had the choice, I would select a longer ship time in exchange for a lower shipping cost. This is a minor point, of course, and I understand that the large majority of your business is in urgent/immediate need parts. Thanks again for making this easy! 

I didn’t fix it, because we just bought a new dryer. However, I will be returning the item we purchased. When I inquired about the return. The customer service rep acknowledged that; yes, I can return it. So I’m happy about it/great customer service and a very quick response. 

Replaced Idler pulley and drums support rollers. Issue 1: Existing Drum Support Rollers were 17mm. Replacements were 14mm. Resolved: Confirmed with APP that 14mm is the current roller design and they worked fine. Issue 2: Back rollers were over-tightened with an impact wrench at the factory. Resolved: Removed back panel and broke free 17mm nuts with socket and breaker bar. However back panel is thin and warped under effort requiring straightening. An impact wrench would have been better to loosen nuts. Be prepared. Issue 3: Idler Pulley wheel was stuck Resolved: Replaced pulley. Watch videos on how to reattach the belt properly. I rated this repair a 3 on the difficulty due to the need to breaker bar off the back rollers and straighten the panel. If the breaker bar failed, I would have had to purchase an impact wrench to complete the repair. Oddly, the front rollers were already loose. 

I did research on you tube to find a video of a repair for this issue. All, including Appliance Parts Pros recommended replacing the drum support rollers. There are 4 on my particular dryer so I ordered 4 just in case. I watched the video a few times and was confident that this was the problem. When the rollers arrived, I took the dryer apart. I did find the blower fan plugged with lint and hair that went almost 3/4's of the way around the fan. The fan spins at a high speed and it being unbalanced would have certainly cause the vibration and noise we were experiencing. I removed all the lint and cleaned the fan. I took apart the rest of the dryer to get to the rear rollers and found 1 roller a little stiff. I elected to change out the two rollers in the read as they are the hardest to get to. The front rollers were in good condition, no binding or wear. After putting the dryer together the noise and vibration was gone. I'm pretty sure the cause was the lint packed fan more than the rollers so definitely check that first, it may save you some time and you don't have to disassemble the entire dryer to fix it. 

Replaced pulley/belt.

I then watched their repair videos and decided that I was, with their guidance, able to perform the repair myself. I also watched some of their other videos and decided that while I had the machine disassembled, and the dryer had been making a squealing noise lately, I would also replace the drum support rollers and the drum belt. During reassembly with the new parts I noticed that the wire color positions from my dryer and the dryer in the videos where in different positions on the heater element, thermal cutoff switch and high limit thermostat. I used the “chat with a pro” function on their website and had an answer within minutes that the wiring position of these particular items did not matter (would work in either position). The dryer works perfectly now!
