How to Troubleshoot & Replace Whirlpool AP5956100 / W10712394 Adjuster Kit

Removed the broken plastic parts on both sides and replaced them with the new metal parts. The wheels on the new parts were too small for my side tracks. I had to remove the small wheels from the new parts and use my wheels from the old parts. I found out later that there are 2 different adjuster kit that have different size wheels for different models. Adjuster Kit W10712394 has the small wheels but Adjuster Kit W10712395 has the big wheels. 

The upper rack on the dishwasher fell apart as in the 3 of 4 wheels kept falling off the axle. This is the second time I am replacing these wheels in 12 years. This replacement assembly is metal with rivets holding on the wheels as opposed to the plastic tabs which became brittle and fell off which allowed the wheels to then fall off. Installation instructions have awful dark photos and I spent way to long trying to decipher the poor quality instructions; I then went to youtube, found a video, watched it for about 5 minutes, then took maybe total ten minutes to replace both assembly sides. No big deal after watching the video. Four stars just because of the terrible instructions included with the upper rack adjuster assembly. Save yourself the trouble, trash the instructions and watch a video. Since the last wheel replacement, we have been switching appliances to stainless so I bought the control panel and big panel in stainless, very easy replacement, just remove a few screws on each side, pop off the old and replace with the new upper and lower panel. 

Removed old bracket which had to guess where to pry and snap parts off. Instruction sheet had very poor quality photos so it became more of a challenge to what went behind or in front of what and what was top. All parts except for the release lever are the same for the left and right sides so make sure you have the release lever thumb push to the front of the dishwasher. Once I did one side, which took about 20 minutes the other side took about 10 minutes. Would have been easier with better photos on instructions but still not bad. Only downside was this repair was necessary due to poor design of original part and should have been covered by the manufacturer. The replacement part is totally redesigned and seems a superior design. 

Just followed the instructions. Took about twenty minutes to do the first time. Could do it now in about 5 minutes since the repair kit is appropriate and easy to deal with in the work. 

I ordered the parts and installed them myself. What's cool is they included a converter to go from a star drive to a phillips screwdriver. 

I purchased the "improved" adjuster kit-the part that holds the track wheels is now metal and the wheels are held in using a clearly improved design. I watched the video at appliancevideo.com which was very done and made the job take only about 10 minutes. 

Ordered Adjuster kit. Came with printed instructions, but I went to youtube (I think I just typed in "Dishwasher adjuster kit installation") and found a great 12-13 minute tutorial that worked through repair step-by-step. Very easy to do after this. And works great now.

Ordered new Adjuster Kit. Works great, old plastic parts are now made of metal and nylon wheel retainer. This replacement kit is much stronger than the original. 

I was surprised to see that there was a new part recommended. It was metal rather than the plastic that I had received in the past. It was a bit more complicated than the last fix I had done. Hopefully the metal will hold up better now.
