How to Troubleshoot & Replace Whirlpool AP3094521 / 285751 Agitator Kit

I purchased the Agitator Kit. It was an easy repair. 

I took my agitator apart and fixed it myself. It was a very easy fix and save me a lot of money. 

I used Appliance Parts Pros and YouTube to diagnose likely causes and learn how to open the machine up. The motor coupling was cracked (it had an original all-plastic coupling) and the agitator dogs were totally obliterated. Once I saw that, it was (mostly) easy to order parts and perform the repairs. The new motor coupling had a *slightly* smaller inside diameter and I needed to scrape the metal sleeve with a small file before it would fit.

Saw what was causing the problem on facebook and how to replace parts. Ordered cam kit, for backup, and four dogs. All I needed to do was replace the dogs. Saved me $600.00 that I was going to spend to purchase a new washing machine.

After viewing the video I removed the agitator, which was fairly simple. I ordered the agitator dogs cam kit. The re-assembling was a little more difficult since the dogs kept falling out of the cam kit. The model that the video showed a dog retaining flange. My agitator has no retaining flange, My washer is about 20 years old. No matter how careful I was in keeping the dogs in place while trying to re-assemble the agitator, at least one of the dogs would keep falling out. I finally cut small pieces of Scotch tape, just large enough to hold the dogs in place while placing the agitator kit into the agitator. I figured since the pieces of tape were so small and the water would render the tape ineffective. The washer worked fine after installing the agitator. 

I bought the agitator cam kit, watched the little repair video that was part of the ordering process. It literally took less than 15 minutes to replace the parts. I had taken the machine apart previous to ordering to verify what I needed to do the repair. That was a great video and made the whole process very easy. I find that APP is a great place to get appliance parts. The service is quite good, with speedy ordering and delivery.
