How to Troubleshoot & Replace Whirlpool AP6013782 / WP9709194 Thumb Screw

After locating needed parts from Appliance Parts Pros large parts inventory, I was able to disassemble, install and reassemble our Kitchen Aid appliance in less than 30 minutes. Our Kitchen Aid Appliance is once again working like new!! 

So far I have the mixer completely torn apart and all the old grease with metal fragments cleaned out of the mixer. It is now a simple matter of replacing the old gears with the new ones and refilling with new grease. I will do this if I ever get the new worm gear that is lost somewhere in the Fedex system. Appliance parts has sent another one on its way but will be somewhat delayed due to the holiday. Hardest part of this type of repair is to spotlessly clean out all the old grease. I highly recommend doing it though as your new gears will last far longer. This will be my third gear replacement and I always replace all the gears except the lower planetary gear which has only needed replacing once. If you've spent the time, replace them all. 

With help from online sources, I suspected that a worm gear had failed. Again, with help from online sources, I disassembled the mixer and found that the worm gear was bad. All the other gears appeared to be in good shape. I ordered a new worm gear from AppliancePartsPros.com along with a replacement knob. Both arrived much earlier than expected. I reverse-ordered the disassembly process to put the mixer back in working order. The planetary gear now spun, though I had an apparent issue with the speed which was too fast in the stir speed, and the speed selector didn't seem to have much effect on the speed after it was placed on the stir setting. With some online searching, I was able to fine-tune the speed control and the mixer now works like it did when it was new.

She took all my information and placed for me. I said "it is nice to talk to someone who knows exactly what to do" I thank you very much. EXCEPTIONAL! 

I ordered two parts a Hubcap and a Thumb screw for my KitchenAid and it was really easy to install. I will do business with them again when I need it.

I simply backed the metal piece out and threaded in the new piece with plastic covering the metal. 

This just a couple of parts that required no disassembly so it was a snap. The website to order the parts were intuitive and easy to use and the parts were delivered within a couple of days. 

The cap and set screw was easy slide in the cap screw in the set screw. The shield pour sets right on the bowl. I took the top of the mixer off unbolted everything to get the the speed knob and replaced it and put it back together. I had to you a 1/8 inch punch and hammer.
