How to Troubleshoot & Replace Whirlpool AP2996731 / 279441 Dryer Front Drum Bearing Ring

I first changed the thermal fuse, which was very easy. It seemed to be working, but then the heat stopped. I checked the fuse for continuity and it was still good. I then called appliance parts pro and the technician help me troubleshoot. I first checked the thermostats for continuity and they were good, then I saw the orange glow from the igniter, so I know it was good too. The most likely culprit was the gas valve coils. while I was taking apart the dryer I also changed the felt drum seal and the bearing ring. The parts arrived in 2 days, The videos were perfect, the technician was charming and the dryer is like new! 

Have not touched since 2000 so it's been 18 years with no maintenance. Decided to replace all the common wear items. Your videos are superb!! I replaced all these parts and it worked for a few loads. The old parts specifically the felt drum seals/bearing & seal were in serious need of replacement. After a few loads determined the motor was bad. Got a replacement motor locally (had to have it same day) replaced that and it has been running like new! Dry's loads faster, starts easy, etc. I used a socket for the 5/16th and 1/4 inch screws because did not have nut drivers. Repair took time because of the gluing on the seals but all the other things would have only taken maybe 15-30 minutes. 

Replaced the splutch cam kit the washer was making a horrible screeching when loaded the nylon gears on the original part was stripping causing the agitation to not work properly. Installed new parts fixed the problem 

With a dryer repair kit... Belt, drum wheels, belt tensioner and clips. Watching the video from took the guess work out and made it easy. 

I replaced the belt and idler pulley and the rollers and drum bearings 

Quick delivery of front drum bearing repaired dryer. Easy directions on website, 15 minutes tops. 

Replaced drum wheels and bearing gasket. 

Well, since I’ve started fixing these appliances for myself, I’ve been using the repair videos produced by you guys as guides. I haven’t found one yet that hasn’t been absolutely spot on. My 10 year old washer and dryer just keep going.

First of all , I tore it down to look at it internally to see what it might need as it was very noisy and drying time was getting to be a very lengthy process . I ordered the parts that appeared to be worn out and replaced them . I still may need to order another part or two but after replacing the parts that I ordered , the dryer is operating 100% better .
