How to Troubleshoot & Replace Whirlpool AP6014843 / WPW10074580 Washer Agitator Inner Cap

The problem is the cam assembly. The agitator dogs are worn out. It's a simple repair. (If over five years old...recommend replacing the cam assembly, inner cap/o-ring and thrust spacer. Pull out the softener basket. Reach in and grasp the tabs on the inner cap and pull. Remove the center bolt (ratchet, six inch extension and socket). Remove the entire agitation assembly. Hold the lower while giving a good tug to separate the upper. Replace the thrust spacer on the lower agitator. Place the upper back on and pop in the cam assembly. Place agitation assembly back in washer. Place center bolt in and snug it up hand tight. Place inner cap (thin layer of liquid detergent on o-ring makes it easy) and then replace the softener dispenser. Done!

Put in new kit with gasket, dogs, cap cover plus bleach dispenser Hope it runs for another year or two. Web site easy to use. Video's a great confidence builder Pasts arrived very quickly. Not my first order from Appliance parts 

Disassembly of motor and transmission from washer unit as described online and from the AP help section. Also replaced clutch assembly even though the old part was working, just for good measure. Replaced agitator claws and dust cap for good measure, also. I like that AP has a very good schematic presentation and list of parts. Thanks, AP. 

Ordered new cams and agitator kit. Very simple repair. Spent more time cleaning the crud and undisolved soap from around and under agitator.
