How to Troubleshoot & Replace Whirlpool AP3047017 / 4455586 Cooktop, Glass & Bracket Assembly (Black)

I checked the web to be sure I should be able to replace the cooktop ceramic, found the part using the AppliancePartsPros website (and confirmed it on another website), and ordered it from AppliancePartsPros. The cooktop, though not in stock, arrived nine days later. The installation was straightforward but took a couple of hours with aid from my wife in lifting the old unit out and installing the new. 

Ordered new glass top after we found out we could and after we had already purchased a whole new unit. When man came to install, he asked why we didn't just buy the glass piece? In all my questions to stores, online search, that was never mentioned. So, we found your wonderful site that was easy to use and. Rey helpful in ordering and receiving promptly. Install was then easy enough by just me and my husband. Thank you! 

Super easy Fix. 1) Remove the knobs, and grommets under them. 2) Use a Phillips screwdriver to remove 3 screws per side. 3) The top slides off, but mine was a bit sticky so I had to use a flathead screwdriver to get it started. 4) New unit slopped right on with no issue, I put all the screws back in, then dropped it into the hole. 5) Replace grommets, then knobs, Done in about 15 minutes tops. NOTE: The unit has a bit of weight to it, so get some to help balance it as you take the screws out, or as I did, get a couple of wood boards (longer than the unit is wide) to put under the unit so you can get to the screws. 

Turn off power. Pull out cooktop. Remove knobs. Unscrew 8 screws. Remove glass. Install new glass.
