James November 19, 2012 for Model Number KECD805H This appears to be the part I need, but using the appliance compatibility checker on your website it says it is not compatible? A friend cracked the glass today and ruined it, so I need to order the replacement glass if it is available. The brand says "kitchenaid" and the part number on the unit is kecd805h with ceran Scott black ceramic/glass. Size and layout looks identical.
1 Answer Hello James. We will need your full model number to get you the correct cooktop. Please post your model number with a new question on the parts page. http://www.appliancepartspros.com/modelnumber_locator.aspx Read More...
Drew November 11, 2012 for Model Number KECD805H I have a Kitchenaid KECD805H glass cooktop with a broken glass. Is replacing the glass a DIY task or should I hire someone to come in and do it? If it is something I can do, how long does it take for the glass to be shipped?
1 Answer Hello Drew, This is not an extremely difficult task. Most do-it-yourselfers can accomplish the task with little difficulty. The most important part is to disconnect the power supply to the unit so you don't get electrocuted. With a cook top, this will need to be accomplished at the breaker box. You need to make sure the power is off once the breaker is off since the majority of the breaker boxes I've encountered have been mis-labeled. Raise the cook top by reaching under the cabinet and pushing up. I use two thick bath towels to protect the counter top when I push it up and turn it diagonal to the opening. This allows the cook top to sit on the cabinet without dis-connecting the wiring. Remove the screws around the sides of the cook top. There are normally three on the front and rear and two on each end. This enables you to raise the top up off of the unit. The installation is in the reverse order. One note, do not tighten the screws around the sides and ends. If you tighten them down, the cook top will normally "rock" in the hole. Tighten them and back them off 1/8 of a turn and this issue will not occur. The delivery time is dependant on where you are and where the part is in stock. Read More...
