Dissembled dryer and cleaned and lubed (graphite) all rollers and idler pulley. That lasted about a day and the squeal noise returned. Had to break down and buy a kit with new rollers/idler pulley/belt. As I was at it I figured it wouldn't hurt to replace the heating element. I read online if you replace the heating element, you should replace the sensors as well, so I did. All is good now. Parts were reasonably priced and shipping was fast. Repaired our dryer within four days doing it myself.
Sure beats having to wait for a repairman to come out. Our dishwasher is currently broke down, under warranty. The repairman has been here three times, tomorrow will be the forth. We've waited two weeks in between visits (ordering parts, not fixing it the first visit, ordering more parts, etc.). It's been two months since our dishwasher has worked. The moral of the story - if you're mechanically inclined, repair it yourself.
