How to Troubleshoot & Replace Whirlpool AP4010130 / 12001930 Dispenser Valve Assy

Opened the washer (details later) and noted the controls and water path. Ordered dispenser bottom and cover and dispenser valve assembly and rubber washers. When the parts arrived I removed the top portion of the detergent dispenser assembly; removed the door and 2 screws from opposite door wall; snap open the front cover and lifted it off; removed 1 metal screw each from the bottom front corners of the top cover; lifted the top cover and used a piece of wood to hold it up; pull down/disconnected the valve assembly power lines; removed the 2 half-inch water supply lines to the valve dispenser; disconnected the 2-inch rubber hose from the bottom dispenser. I assembled the new dispenser parts and installed it. I did a quick washer run to confirm no leaks. 

Replaced main and dispenser valves. Given the washer is 15 years old, I decided to replace the fill hoses as well. 

Ordered new solenoid valves and installed. No more unwanted water. Washer works as it should. 

The part was very easy to put on, it took about a half-hour. 

Replaced the two parts that were the likely cause. Problem solved. 

Replaced the door boot seal while watching the video from Appliance Parts Pro. The video was excellent and showed every step clearly. The Dispenser Valve was easy to access while replacing the door boot seal since the front and top of the washing machine were already open. Direct replacement was easy and obvious with no need for a video....
