How to Troubleshoot & Replace Whirlpool AP6262391 / W11132267 Gearcase

New gearcase. Originally thought replacing bearing would solve the noise but after an online chat with AplliancePartsPro, they researched bearing replacement and advised my model did not have the capability of the bearing replacement of other Cabrio models and recommended the gearcase. Replacement was not too difficult--albeit time consuming. Lid removal is NOT what is shown for most washers (putty knife to front clips), you remove rear vertical clips and pull the lid forward. I did not have the specified spanner wrench but careful tapping (really bashing) of the hub nut with short drift and hammer and removal of 6 years of muck allowed removal of gear case. Note it still took some force with a wood block to tap out from the tub. Be careful as the case is a tight fit and will contact items under the tub thus takes some maneuvering to drop free. New gearcase--back to quiet, original operation! 

I second person was very helpful because once we removed the hub nut and the 6 screws from the plate on the bottom, inside the basket, it took one of us to hold the basket up a little and the other used a hammer and a long steel pipe, to start tapping on the old splined shaft to remove the basket. This one was stuck on that shaft from a little rust, gunk, etc., but popped off. Everything else was easy from then on. The new gearcase went back in very easy, just make sure you clean your baskets and other parts real good before reassembly 

Bearing were out in the transmission had to replace whole unit very expensive but worked like new again. 

Replaced Gearcase 

Researched problem and found that transmission bearing was bad and the tub seal was leaking which caused the bearing failure. I ordered the transmission, tub seal, drive block assembly, splutch assembly, drive belt and wash plate bolt. I replaced the other items because of the age of the washer and I already had them off to replace the transmission. Everything went smooth on the replacement after I watched the videos relevant for the repair. The biggest issue was the drive block because it had corroded. I used a dremel tool to cut it into to remove. I did purchase a spanner wrench to remove the basket drive spanner nut, $13.00. Did the recalibration per instructions and washer is now quiet and no leaks. Great videos. 

Replaced it. 

I replaced the Gearcase and wash tub Drive Coupler. 

I determined that the gear case was bad due to leaking of oily substance underneath. Wear was severe enough that the output shaft would not disengage the basket as long as there was belt tension. Gear case replacement kit came with new seal and replacement drive block and clip. Gear case was replaced and washer works great. 

Replaced the transmission and belt 

I replaced the gearcase and now it works very good
