Questions & Answers

For Whirlpool Gearcase (Part Number: OEM18787182)

Hello VL, thank you for contacting AppliancePartsPros.com The bearings are part of the gearcase W11132267 on this model. Without further diagnostic process we are unable to determine if the gearcase is bad, but that is a possibility. The seal is not going to cause a noise like this.

Darin for Model Number Kenmore 110.213022012

Greeting AP Pros, Subject: Play between Kenmore 110.213022012 tube and agitator drive shafts. Replacing the drum mount hub assembly due to grinding noise during spin cycle. It was heavily corroded and required cut & chisel to remove the nut, flange, and hub. The washer goes through all other cycles / diagnostics without incident or concerning noises. As a matter of fact, the spin cycle operates fine when running test cycle without a wash load. While it was apart, I noticed a little play between the inner agitator shaft and outer tub shaft. The center shaft pulls in/out a little, less than 1/16”; and there is a slight side-to-side play, difficult to estimate, less than 1/32” . Is there typically a little play between the shafts or is this a sign of worse things to come? Thanks for the help and extremely useful web site content. Regards, -Darin

Darin, The amount of play that you are seeing is really a non-issue. It would be one thing if it were 1/4 " but what you are seeing would be within tolerance.

Kevin, This would be a bad bearing on the unit and the only way to get the bearing is to replace the gearcase.

Dorothy, it would be recommended that all parts in this gearcase kit are used. The gearcase does come with the tub seal installed onto the gearcase.

Frankie, We do not have a complete video on that replacement. We do have a video on how to remove most of the parts located on the gearbox and then you have 6 to 8 bolts holding the gearbox in place. You would also have to remove the inner basket from the outer tub to complete this repair.

Jack for Model Number MVWX700XL1

Hi I just replaced my gear case and everything worked good during calibration and I did a test with no clothes just to check for leaks because that was the original issue. (Well leaks and bearing noise was issue) after I put clothes in now only during agitate it’s making a really loud noise. Not sure what happened. Sounds like a squech noise(weird loud rubbing type noise)not sure if that even describes it correctly. During spin there is no sound at all. Any thoughts? Could it be a faulty part are did I not tighten something down right?

1 Answer

Jack, You will want to check the splutch on this unit to ensure that it is engaging properly and reinstalled properly. This would be the most likely cause for the noise issue.
