We have an insurance policy through Home Smart. Technician came out and said it needed a new motor drive & wasn't worth repairing. So, I decided rather than spend $500 + on a new machine, I'd see if I could fix it myself. I found a new motor drive on ApplianceParts and ordered it. They also had a good DIY video on how to replace the motor.
However, when the part arrived, I followed the video instructions on how to start the replacement. What should have taken no more than 2hrs tops, ended up being a full day. Something not mentioned in the video is what to do if the driver shaft is completely rusted to the bearing fitted into the wash drum. It took several hours of anti rust spray & hammering with a pry bar to get the shaft to break free. I had to completely disassemble the washing machine to get it out.
It's now all back together and running like brand new. Would I do it all over again, well, $200 for the part, several hours of labor, if I can get another 12/24 months out of the machine, then yes, I'd say it was worth it.
