How to Troubleshoot & Replace Whirlpool AP6800088 / W11200218 Grease

Followed the video instructions provided by AppliancePartsPros. Video was well made, giving step by step disassembly and reassembly. 

I replaced the Hub Gear set with the dual gear kit after cleaning all the grease from the mixer. I then replaced the grease with the KitchenAid recommended grease and bench tested the mixer for gear run-in and then returned it to the customer. Once again with the help of AppliancePartsPros.com who had the correct parts, a great price and FAST shipping, this job resulted in a very grateful customer who now needs a new nose grinder, which was destroyed in the frozen fruit grinding effort. We purchased a Gear Kit and the Worm Follower Gear along with some grease and replaced the needed parts. 

Installed parts as instructed and it works. You are amazing!!! 

The online parts order went well, and the extra help I received on the phone answered all of my questions. Our Kitchen Aid Mixer is 12 years old and gets plenty of use. The replacement of all parts was incredible, mainly because the Appliance Parts Pro explanation on YouTube was very detailed and well explained. The best part was taking it apart, learning how it functions, and not being afraid to tackle the job again if needed. My wife was amazed at how easy it was and happy that she has her Kitchen Aid Mixer back in operation.

First I Googled possibilities of the problem and found this site. It had a video and the parts at a respectable price. Following the video, I replaced all the gears and grease. The grease is pricey but worth every penny. I could feel the metal shavings in the grease when replacing the parts. It took about an hour to complete the fix. A really basic fix, use the video and follow. 

Replaced the planetary and a couple other wear parts will I had it apart. Shaft bushing, thrust bearing and sleeve bushing. Haven’t put it to the test of the wife’s cookie dough yet. Hope this speaks the trick with holidays right around the corner. 

It went from repair to redo/customize quickly. As the mixer was old, but had sentimental value. I completely took apart the kitchen aid mixer. I took the case pieces to a powder coated for a new purple coating. As this was being done I decided to purchase new motor parts as the mixer is older and was at times struggling. I disassembled the mixer one year prior to powder coating. When it came time to assemble and ‘fix’ I really needed the videos on here to help guide me to make sure everything was put back in correctly for it to work like new. And I can say that is exactly how it works! 

I replaced both front & rear sleeve bearings along with the shaft bearing to improve stability of rotation of all gears. I also found the vertical shaft bearing had worked itself out of the housing and was sitting on top of the bevel gear rather than pressed into housing. I reinstalled the vertical shaft TOP bearing into the housing and "pressed" it in with a hammer and socket extension. I then cleaned all parts and the housing and installed new grease into the proper places. Upon reassembly, the machine was run at slow speed to ensure all things meshed properly. The machine was then run at top speed for 5 minutes without issue. I would have 'bought" more parts, like vertical shaft and planetary gears BUT the prices are too expensive and a 'refurbished' unit can be purchased from KitchenAid with a warranty for far less than the parts cost! Being a manufacturing engineer, it is sad to see the 'mark-up' on piece parts as it tends to make repair unreasonable and wastes a lot of good material into the landfill! Thanks for working to keep the prices reasonable and hopefully, dropping the price will create MORE repair business rather than throwing away the old to buy new or refurbished systems.
