How to Troubleshoot & Replace Whirlpool AP6800088 / W11200218 Grease

Took it apart to clean and paint it the desired Kitchen Aid Red. Noticed the grease was not in the best of shape so went online to find the proper grease. Ordered the grease and a new gasket for the re-assembly. Painted the red using Rustoleum spray paint. Daughter did not recognize the old K45 mixer at all. 

Youtube video on this matter explained how to repair the problem. I ordered the grease and the repair was easy...Now it's time for more cookies!!!! 

Had to take out 9 screws to get access to the gears. Removed the worn gears and the old grease. Installed the new gears and new grease. The whole procedure took about 1 1/2 hours once I had the parts. 

Using Kitchen's repair manual - available online- I took the machine apart and found the plastic worm gear was missing some teeth. The mixer is built like a tank and worked like a champ for 30 years so I decided to fix it. The worm gear is available separately but I decided to replace the whole bracket as a unit as it was not much more expensive and saved some work. The only hard part is removing all the old sticky thick grease which I felt I had to do since the ground up missing gear teeth were in there somewhere. It now works like a charm and hopefully will last another 30 years. 

Removed damaged gears, cleaned unit of all contaminated grease, and re-assembled gear box with new approved grease. 

Disassembled the gear box. cleaned out the old grease and replaced it. 

Bought the part from AppliancePartsPro. I receive the part in 3 days and replaced the damaged gear.
