How to Troubleshoot & Replace Whirlpool AP6873992 / W11346623 Whirlpool Refrigerator Water Filter Head

Replaced water filter head. Had some difficulty removing tube from quick grip collar. 

Starting off with I made my own problem as I did not replace the filter in over two years. I started the repair by replacing the filter. Solved it for a couple of days then the issue returned. Then purchased the filter Head from Appliance Parts Pros, who had a very informative video on how to replace the filter Head. After replacing the filter head the issue is gone and has not returned after a few days of use. I'll be replacing the filter regularly from now on. 

Installed new water filter head following APP video. My filter holder was actually somewhat different but a quick study (best done with at least one shelf below removed), allowed easy release of the existing part. Rear arrangement of the water lines didn’t match 100% but it is a simple 2 line part and no way to install incorrectly. TIP: make sure you push the plain end tube firmly into place in the locking collar, it will bottom out. If not you may get a little wet. LOL. Time approximately 40 min due to slightly different arrangement and “ciphering’” time, plus you need to allow cleaning time to make the work area a dust free zone. 

Removed and replaced the water filter head. 

I replaced the water filter head after buying the new filter and getting the same result. Video from Appliance Part Pros showed step by step how to replace. The repair took 10 minutes. And now my water dispensed like normal. 

My fridge had a loud noise when getting water, low water flow. I replaced the water filter head and everything was addressed. It worked perfectly, quick and easy repair. I needed the block-fill foam piece, since the original one broke during the repair. Shipping was fast. The repair video from Appliance Parts Pros helped a lot too. Thanks! 

Replaced the water filter head. Watched the youtube video made by Appliance Parts Pros. Luckily I bought the two related parts (the styrofoam block fill and the backing plate) because I broke both in removing the old part. All the parts together were about the same cost as a filter so it really paid off 

We ordered the water filter backing plate, the water filter head and the block filter for the hoses on the back of the fridge. Took about an hour to fix. Pulling out the fridge (cleaning behind it) removing old parts that we broke and then replacing with the new parts. The videos were great and extremely helpful. Thank You Marie P 

Ordered the parts needed and replaced following your instructions. Everything worked perfectly. Could not believe the parts arrived the next day. I need to find out how to drain the system so this won’t happen again.
