How to Troubleshoot & Replace Whirlpool AP6010105 / WP61006199 Defrost Heater Assembly

Actually I first thought defrost heater assembly is wrong so I changed it but problem was not resolved. Then I ordered Defrost Control Board. That was actually bad. Once I changed it, the problem is wrong. It was very simple to change both part. Video of you tube were very helpful and truly it is DIY work. No need to shell out hard earned money. Important piece of advice, try to find actual bad part first before ordering the part. 

After defrosting coils and getting fridge running again I checked the lower radiant heater and it appeared to be burnt out. I checked my timer by advancing the cycle manually after being advised by appliance pro where it was located and it appeared to be functioning properly. Ordered new radiant heater from appliance pro, replaced the old one and now all seems to be working properly. I also replaced the defrost thermostat at the same time. Note it is tricky getting all the wiring for the old heater out and new one in but not impossible for diy. 

My luck.... my son-in law worked for Sears as a refrig repairman. Diagnosed the problem... Told me what parts were needed. I found your site online. Simple, quick process ordering, next day delivery. Refrigerator shutdown was basically 24 hrs from diagnosis to up and running. When I showed my son-in law your site , he agreed the next time he needs parts he will use you. 

I purchased a defrost control board and defrost element and temperature control module for the fridge, installed all of them and now it works great. The parts were shipped quickly and they arrived in two days and they were in perfect order. 

Checked the defrost heater and it was burnt, ordered a new one and just to be safe also ordered a new defrost timer and thermostat. The refrigerator is now running perfectly. 

Replaced defroster heater. 

I defrosted the refrigerator (took off the panel in the freezer side and used a blowdryer) I then replaced the defrost heater assembly which was a pretty easy replacement. I watched the youtube video to see how the replacement was done and had no issues. Now the fridge is working like a charm, back to 35 degrees and not even turned all the way up! (the actual replacement of the assembly only took about 15 minutes, but of course it did take about 45 minutes to get the fridge defrosted all of the way from the ice buildup) 

Watching videos and tips from Youtube I determined that the Automatic defrost control board was bad. I also felt that the heater element could of been a problem too. So I ordered both which replaced all parts to remove frost from coils. Parts to me cost less than a service call or loss of food or getting sick. Parts ordered exactly as found and installed without trouble, (watched video before) Everything seems to be working and Refrigerator remains cold after 5 days. 

Ordered defrost heater and replaced the old one. 

The unit is 20 years old, so I decided to purchase both a Defrost Heater from AppliancePartsPros and Jenn-Air Refrigerator Defrost Control Board from a competitor. (AppliancePartsPros didn't have the part in stock). The entire cost was < $100USD delivered (Excellent!)... Both were easy to change out, the Defrost Heater was simple a 5 min job (really).
