How to Troubleshoot & Replace Whirlpool AP6015340 / WPW10121138 Refrigerator Water Filter Housing

I replaced the water filter housing and it was fixed! 

Replaced the water filter housing. Easy job, saved over two hundred if I would have had a repairman do it. 

I did some research on the internet and discovered the water filter housing could be the cause.. I watched a video on the replacement of the part and contacted appliance Parts Pros. and ordered a new housing. As promised the part was delivered within 2 days. Ordered on Sunday and received on Tuesday. I installed the part within 30 minutes following the video instruction for the part and the refrigerator is operating as good as new. Thanks to Appliance Parts Pros for their excellent service and helpful videos. 

Replaced Water Filter Housing. It contains valves that went bad. Normally, those valves actuate in such a way that the water dispenser and ice maker function with OR without a filter installed. The valve in the Water Filter Housing malfunctioned, reducing flow. It also leaked when I took the water filter out. Now it works perfectly. 

Took housing off, ordered a new one and replaced. Works great! 

Tested different things and actually replaced the water inlet valve thinking solenoid had gone bad, but that was not the problem. Turned out it was the water filter housing which also has a valve in it of some kind that is activated by the water filter itself. Had purchased cheaper water filters online and I think they may have not fit quite right and damaged that valve. Water filter housing was relatively easy to replace took me about 30 minutes. Video on the website is pretty good. 

I coincidentally had a Sears tech at the house doing maintenance on the washer/dryer. I asked him to take a look at it and he said "I don't know if that can be fixed, that connection looks like it's part of the fridge". So I donned my Sherlock hat and headed to Appliance Parts Pros. I got EVERYTHING I needed from their site. Schematics to identify the parts, videos of how to install, and quickly received the delivery of parts. Had it up and running within an hour! The hardest thing was the cumbersome positioning of the water filter housing. Mind you, I am a 57 year old female. Yes, I'm mechanically inclined, but couldn't have done it without Appliance Pros. I'll definitely be back for my next appliance repair. 

When I took the filter out the water feature worked fine but water was slowly dripping out of filter housing into drain pan. once I replaced the filter housing {got great instructional video on line from appliance parts pros) everything worked fine. The whole process took about 30 minutes. this could have been a minimum 2 hour service call had it not been for the symptom checks I received on line from Appliance Parts Pros 

I first thought it was the filter, so when I changed the filter only to noticed after I removed the filter that water was coming out of one of the holes the filter plugs into. So I removed the filter housing and blew compressed air in each of the holes that the water lines plugged into. To my surprise white flake chips blew out. This was calcium from the city water I use. The valves in the old housing worked a little better so I went ahead and replace the housing and all is good now. Good pressure and water flow. The big lesson I learned was to remove the screws in the back that hold the shut off valves on the back of the frig. This allowed more slack in the water lines to allow for me to pull the filter housing further out so I could remove the water lines with ease. (Note: This is a different set a valves then the ones on the filer housing) My unit allows for the filer to be removed and continue using the water. The water is unfiltered now. 

Simple fix... replace the water housing.
