I removed the burners and replaced the igniters. The burners must be removed because the igniters go underneath them.
This job turned out to be very difficult because my stove is 16 years old and the screws holding down the igniters were completely rusted and bound to the stove top, so I had to drill out all of the screws. Also, the burners were bound to the gas flues by mineral deposits and separating them was very difficult.
Once I got the stove top up, I threaded the igniter wires to the spark module, which is located in the top left of the stove, accessible by removing the top back panel. This step might have been easier by disconnecting the gas line and pulling the oven all the way out. The gas line can be reached by removing the bottom drawer.
I replaced the original screws with stainless #8 sheet-metal screws.
