On my cooktop the knobs sit between the 2 front burners. Large pots are fairly close to them when I'm cooking so over the past 14 years the knobs had become discolored and slightly melted. I ordered new knobs (which arrived the next day even without any special shipping!) and took only a minute to install.
Overall, a very successful, easy experience.
