How to Troubleshoot & Replace Whirlpool AP3138838 / 285811 Medium Cam Agitator Repair Kit

The website had an easy to follow video, that made the repair an easy chore. My only complaint was the cost of that tiny container of white grease. Seems you could find a supplier that could furnish a small tube of it for quite a bit less money. With that said, this is still one of the most helpful, easy to deal with sites, I have ever used. This was my 3rd or 4th repair, and each was a great experience. 

I was looking up how to clean the softener dispenser and came across your video on how to fix the agitator. I didn't really realize the agitator was not working correctly until I saw your video. I always thought something was not right though. ha! Anyway, I went ahead and purchased a new dispenser and repair kit for the agitator. I was able to fix it exactly as shown on your video. Thank you so much !!! 

When I took apart the agitator, I could see that the thrust washer was broken. I ordered a Cam Agitator Repair Kit (that included the thrust washer along with new dogs and new cam, because I have read that it is common for them to wear out; and an Agitator Bolt (because before it completely stopped agitating, the bolt kept backing off). I simply changed out the parts, put it back together, and reattached it to the washer. I didn't realize that grease would be needed for the Thrust Agitator. I did not have any, so I used WD 40. 

Found video on appliancepartspros.com clearly demonstrating all steps for installing the parts for the agitator repair kit recommended on the website. The video showed which parts were likely the problem during the repair demonstration. I installed the new parts with the repair kit, which replaced the predicted broken parts in my washer. I was very satisfied with the thoroughness of the repair video, which made my repair effort relatively easy.

I first contemplated replacing my washer since it's over 10yrs old. Checked YouTube and found Appliance Parts Pros videos and saw I could do this simple repair. I originally propped up my washer and used my iPhone to video the leak. Saw it was the hose linking the water inlet valve to the tub. Ordered my parts from APP and disassembled my washer within 10 min. Cleaned the tub and replaced the parts. I also repaired the agitator parts, which I didn't realize they were bad until I watch a few more APP videos. Washer back in full service and washing like new. I have an older direct drive Maytag, which is considered easier to repair. 

Looked on APP site under slow spin seen the possible causes and checked them. Seen my clutch looked wore out so we replaced it. It now works better than ever on hi spin! 

Replaced agitator gears kit. 

I installed an agitator repair kit from you folks following the guidance offered up in the video provided on your web site. Without that assistance, it would have taken much longer and it's possible I might have done more damage to other parts. Great help! 

First off let me say that I am most certainly not an appliance or equipment-handy type, whatsoever. The machine was only about 10 years old and we’d only gently used it, I was not prepared to buy a new one already, so I was determined to try and fix it. I read through all the different posts, read peoples’ descriptions about how easy you all had made it, and decided to give it a try. I attempted to diagnose based on the list of most likely possibilities, and as such, ordered the agitator pieces and motor coupling. I had already determined that the lid switch was working fine so these were my next options. I ordered the parts right there and received them promptly the next day. Following the video, I took apart the agitator and found all those parts in good working order but opted to replace them anyway. I ran the machine again. This was obviously not the fix so I moved to the next fix which was the motor coupling. Again, following the video, I took the machine apart, got to the motor and examined the coupling with no issues. One of those was broken in half. I replaced that with the new parts and put everything back together. Wow!!! Easy as 1-2-3! Really!!! I was scared but boy, the videos make it so incredibly simple. I have a perfectly working washer again for under $40. Thank you AppliancepartsPros!!!
