How to Troubleshoot & Replace Whirlpool AP3138838 / 285811 Medium Cam Agitator Repair Kit

Cam Agitator repair kit......replaced the "agitator dogs" which were worn and no longer able to mesh with gear, also replaced the cam, a cap seal, a washer for the agitator bolt and a thrust washer that came with the kit and a little of the grease on to the thrust washer. Re assembled the agitator and replaced it into the washer. Whole process took just under an hour. Washer is working again like new . The videos were a BIG help.....thanks ! Installed new dogs and repair kit parts and now works fine. I ordered kit from appliancepartspro.com and paid for regular shipping. the parts arrived in two days. Very fast shipping. Had washer working in less than 30 minutes after parts arrived. 

Followed the instructions to remove covers to machine. Found water a the back of the washer at the floor where the water valve/vacuum break is located. Ordered parts, replaced the parts and no water leak. The KitchenAid Washer and Dryer is 28 yeasrs old. Since the parts and instruction videos are easy to followed I ordered extra parts to rebuild the pair. Will be placing orders for more parts to have extra parts as needed, and to repair my son/daugher-in-law washer and dryer as well. Appliancepartspros have helped me tremendously. Richard Battles 

Repair kit work the repair took about 10 mins 

I walked in one Saturday finding Her banging on the washer, with a little investigating I found timer would stop a couple times in cycles and lid switch was preventing operation in another and upper agitator not working. so I started looking for parts and found Appliance Parts Pros.com, web site easy to navigate found all the parts I needed plus a few parts to keep on hand, also the repair videos were helpful. the repair would take about 30-60 minutes but it took 2-3 hours because all the cleaning and prepping it took 

Opened lid during cycle and found upper agitator not turning.Removed dust cover seal and saw cam turning but dogs were only engaging once in a while.Although I didn't need to replace the upper agitator I did anyway,along with the agitator cam kit. I watched the quick repair video and repaired the washer myself in less than 30 min. 

I checked the clutch and coupling and decided they were fine. When I removed the agitator I realized that the dogs were bad so I replaced them. I also replaced the lid switch. 

Watched water inlet valve repair video, ordered parts and fixed easily according to video. 15 minute DIY repair saved many dollars. One small issue, the metal plate accompanying the inlet valve was mis-drilled. The plate would not screw on the valve when placed properly. Had to drill new hole to allow correct alignment. Also, metal plate only provided one screw hole to attach to washer back. I realize this is a sort of "generic" part designed to replace many specific units so they probably couldn't accomodate every model. Also took time to order agitator cam repair kit that fixed non-working top agitator part. Another 15 minute easy fix that saved money and made the washer work better. Am now looking to repair other appliances that have small issues I've just been living with and not fixing. So glad I discovered this site! 

I looked inside and saw the teeth were worn off the "dogs" so I purchased the Cam Agitator repair kit and a new bolt. Getting the old bolt out was the hardest part since it was worn and rusted. I ended up having to buy a set of socket extensions and a set of stripped bolt sockets so $45 in tools and it took me an hour to get the old bolt out but putting everything back together was a breeze. I was very proud of myself, as a woman, that I fixed this problem myself and didnt have to pay a repair man to do it. 

I ordered the parts from AppliancePartsPros.com and they arrived the next day! I followed along with the video on the website and completed the whole repair in about 20 minutes from start to finish. It was a piece of cake! My only complaint is that the part only cost about $17 but the agitator grease needed to lubricate the washer cost $27. I just used a little bit, and I probably will never use the rest. They should include a tiny tube along with the parts that contains just enough to get this job done. At any rate, I saved money doing it myself, and I didn't have to take time off work to be here with the repair tech. This is a great resource that I'll use again, if I have to.
