How to Troubleshoot & Replace Whirlpool AP6016377 / WPW10178988 Rotor Position Sensor

I watched your YouTube video and bought a new sensor. The video was excellent and the repair was simple. Thanks for the video. $27 part and getting to show my 13-year-old boy how to fix something vs sending a tech out and spending $300 was a great learning experience for him. Thanks again. 

Replaced the remote position sensor (RPS). Watched your DIY videos on the website and followed the directions. What could have cost hundreds of dollars cost me less than $40. Took less than a half-hour to complete. 

Ordered tool and bearing kit with a new shaft from AppliancePros.com

Replaced the position sensor 

This code is a rotor position sensor failure, commonly a high resistance connection at the sensor terminal-harness connector. I've previously just cleaned the terminals, added a little contact grease and re-assembled with success for several years. This time I changed out the sensor. It's working perfectly again. It's all done from under the machine with minimal dis-assembly. Watch the video for details and you need very few tools (a hex wrench for the rotor, 10 mm socket for the stator bolts, small straight screwdriver) plus a little contact grease from the local auto store. 

All I had to do was follow the instruction video and everything went great. I had seen other repair videos on you tube, but none were as complete and easy as the one Appliance Parts Pros provides. The only thing they didn't mention was that Rotor / Stator have a magnetic attraction which might cause a bit of a pull when you re-install the stator - but that did not change my opinion that their repair videos are the best you can follow. 

My Maytag washer would stop after the wash cycle and not spin or drain. If I turned it off and back on, the pump would drain the water, but not spin. This washer does not have separate a "spin" cycle. After checking with Appliance Parts Pros, they recommended that I replace the RPS sensor. I have owned this washer for 4 years and this is the second time I have had to replace this sensor, they seem to last about 2 yrs. I received the sensor in a couple of days and replaced it in about 30 minutes (as much time looking for tools as actual work). Many thanks to the video on replacing this part. I have since completed over 10 loads with no issues. APP is the only vendor I use for appliance parts. I always get what I ordered, with quick shipping, and at a fair price.
