How to Troubleshoot & Replace Whirlpool AP2934763 / 786324 Oven Igniter

Starting a few months ago, our 1977 Modern Maid range oven began taking increasingly longer to ignite. Recently, upon inspection, the igniter glowed red, but it took 5 minutes for the oven burner to ignite, then it quit heating mid-way through the 1 hour planned for the item being baked. Installation of the new igniter was easy, and the burner now ignites in less than 30 seconds. The only surprising part of installation which slowed installation slightly was disconnecting the old igniter wires from the oven wires. Upon removal of the twist-on wire connectors, it appeared that the wires had been soldered. I ended up cutting the wire ends and installed new twist-on wire connectors. 

The appliance repair guy wanted to charge $275. I fixed it with no previous experience in about 1 hour. It only took that long because my oven is built into the wall. The only tools needed were a screwdriver, socket set, pliers and wire strippers. 

Replace the oven igniter. 

Replaced with new igniter. Now oven works fine. Seems the igniters only last 12 or 14 years. Second time I have replaced it since the stove was new in 1992. 

Ordered the new Oven Igniter & installed it. 

Not difficult to remove and replace. Luckily! 

I called Appliance Parts Pros, spoke with a rep, and he sent out the part. It arrived in 2 days, and I replaced the part that night. Perfect! 

Replaced the oven igniter. It took longer to pull the oven away from the wall than it took to replace the part. 

Replaced the ignitor 

Purchased the recommended parts. Took the stovetop apart, removed the old parts and installed the new ones. Worked like a charm. Changed out the knobs and burner. The stovetop looks and runs like new! Thanks to you all.
