Starting a few months ago, our 1977 Modern Maid range oven began taking increasingly longer to ignite. Recently, upon inspection, the igniter glowed red, but it took 5 minutes for the oven burner to ignite, then it quit heating mid-way through the 1 hour planned for the item being baked.
Installation of the new igniter was easy, and the burner now ignites in less than 30 seconds. The only surprising part of installation which slowed installation slightly was disconnecting the old igniter wires from the oven wires. Upon removal of the twist-on wire connectors, it appeared that the wires had been soldered. I ended up cutting the wire ends and installed new twist-on wire connectors.
