How to Troubleshoot & Replace Whirlpool AP6016800 / WPW10195840 Dishwasher Adjuster Positioner

Had to look to youtube to figure out how to fix my problem and found the solution, even though they were working on a different brand. (my dishwasher is a Maytag and the video was for a Kitchen Aid) Parts worked fine. 

Mechanism on the upper rack of the dishwasher broke. I ordered the parts Sunday night and they arrived at my home Tuesday morning. I watched the video how to repair. Took 20 minutes to fix and saved at least $150 for not calling a repairman. 

The plastic was broken to hold the upper rack in place. I pried the pieces apart with a screwdriver and reassembled and snapped the new ones in place. Because the dishwasher was mechanically functional, I didn't want to call a high-dollar repairman for such a simple job. 

Looking at the rack, I could see a few plastic tabs had deteriorated and broken loose. I LOVE the diagrams at Appliance Parts Pros - and purchased two upper rack adjusters and two positioners. While only one was broken, it was short money to just replace both sides. Zero tools needed, and was back in business two days later with overnight shipping! 

Replaced it. 

Ordered my parts and snapped them into place. 

The silverware basket was an easy replacement fix. However, the adjuster kit didn’t match the original adjuster. After some tinkering the replacement kit parts did fit our basket. 

I looked on the schematic, figured out what parts i needed to order. Took me about 45 minutes to figure out how to dissemble rack adjuster without breaking anything else. Racks fixed and working fine. Just a short bit of advice. The adjuster connects to the sliding drawer brackets with two short pins. Don't just push your drawer back with any force when its loaded as this could result in breaking those pins. One more. thing. The new "basket war" silver wear basket is a much better design than the old one. BUT. the tops of the new basket fit securely on the old basket. same basket, yet they won't offer to just sell the top to replace. You have to buy a whole new basket. Not Cool Whirlpool.
