How to Troubleshoot & Replace Whirlpool AP6005652 / WP179051 Screw (10-32)

Overall the fix wasn't too hard. The challenge was putting the oven door back together and holding it together while trying to tighten the screws. Enlisted my wife's help to hold the door and at first the handle screws wouldn't tighten. My cordless screwdriver's battery was under-charged. Once I switched batteries I was able to tighten the screws. Seemed like I needed to push too hard (my wife freaked "not so hard you will strip them!") however pushing hard was what was needed. Both screws tightened and job complete. 

I used screw #WP179051 to repair it. 

I DIDN'T REMEMBER HOW IT WAS BEFORE THE BREAKAGE BUT FIGURED OUT QUICKLY. ONLY THING I DIDN'T KNOW WAS THERE WAS IT HAD A CERTAIN WAY TO GO ON. GREENSIDE UP TYPE OF THING. . 

Removed old element. Hardest part was undoing the two screws because they were very rusty. The stove is 35 years old! Put new element in, and it went in very easy. Works fine! 

Replaced the Door Glass and Trim, I recommend anyone doing the repair to look at the video for the trim and for the door glass (the glass video is with the dark glass door.) As others have said, the trim is counter intuitive with the glass setting on top of the trim. Also, our Whirlpool Super Capacity 465 has different hinges than shown in the videos. Follow the instructions in owners manual for removing the door or you will have devil of a time reinstalling. (The door hinges have holes in which pins must be inserted to keep hinge from fully retracting when taken off the stove) This is an easy repair if you are not fight the door hinges to reinstall .. :( 

I watched the video on the dryer air duct assembly page, and followed it. It was almost exactly like my machine! Pop open the top cover of the dryer, disconnect the wires from the door switch, remove the screws from the front panel, then swap out the air duct. Easy! I scraped excess lint out of a fan that the dryer duct dumps the air to for exhaust, so it added some time there, but it was a very easy fix! Probably saved at least $100 in labor fees if I would have paid somebody to do it. 

I was amazed that AppliancePartsPros.com had the item in question and in stock. Breaking the front glass on an 8 year oven and finding out they had a piece in stock ready to ship was unbelievable! I thought I was going to have to shell out $800 plus for a new oven!
