The most likely cause for overheating is the temperature sensor, so I started with that. Inside the Whirlpool oven, the sensor is located on the upper left rear wall. Access is from the back of the stove. One screw holds the sensor in place, but two screws can be used. I taped a dowel stick to the end of the sensor so when I pulled the sensor out of the oven the dowel came through with it. That prevents any insulation inside the wall of the oven from shifting and blocking the installation of the new sensor. My installation partner pulled lightly on the dowel stick now attached to the new sensor as I inserted the new sensor. Reassembly followed. Using an oven thermometer, I watched the thermometer's display as well as the stove's display. They didn't correlate until the final temperature was reached and the stabilized after a few minutes. Problem solved.
