How to Troubleshoot & Replace Whirlpool AP6012742 / WP8318084 Washer Lid Switch

Removed top control panel, removed burnt switch, replaced with new unit. 

Replaced lid switch. 

The first thing was to check the lid switch. The repair went well 

Replaced switch-lid wp8318084. Make sure to lift the lid. Follow instructions. 

I followed the video, indicating how to replace the worn switch. The whole project took me about 10 minutes. 

Ordered a replacement switch. Watched the repair video, provided by your company. Appliance Parts Pros were great. The part was easy to find, reasonably priced, and shipped the same day. Very happy with the quality of the item ordered. 

Replaced the lid switch. 

Disconnected washer took outside, took out the bolt inside the agitator, laid unit on its back, disconnected the wiring harness to motor. Took clips off pump and pulled pump off motor. Took the 3 bolts out of transmission, and pulled transmission and motor out, took the clips off that holds the clutch on and installed the new clutch and parts that came along with it. Once parts installed, reassembled washer in reverse order. Hooked up washer, and it’s been running ever since, and my wife couldn’t be happier, Her birthday is next week and says that was her early birthday present. Thanks 

I cut off the connector, stripped the wires and tinned them. Opened up the switch to expose the pins and tinned them. Soldered them together, insulated with hot glue and buttoned it up. 

I replaced the switch with a new one from your site. Tested the old switch and found it to be good. This told me that the arm on the lid was not in the correct position. Once I installed the new switch it worked properly for now.
