How to Troubleshoot & Replace Whirlpool AP6012742 / WP8318084 Washer Lid Switch

Replaced lid switch. Most challenging part was figuring out how to access the top control panel. Be sure to keep lid in the open position when installing the new switch. 

Looked up part number from model number. Ordered part after watching a fix it video provided by Appliance Parts Pros.com. I received the part in less than 24 hours after paying the additional shipping charge. The biggest problem in fixing the washer was opening up the panel to get to the part. It seems that all washers have different ways to get into it. I had to use a flat putty knife like tool to get under the sides of the panel and pop it open whereas other similar models had two screws on the back side of the panel. 

Replaced lid switch using the video on Appliance Parts Pro website 

First I bypassed the switch so I could finish laundry and ordered a new switch 

I took off the back panel, rolled console forward and exposed lid switch and as the video said i released the switch and connected the new one.SImple. 

I installed a new lid switch purchased from Appliance Pros

Lid switch was cracked and when I went to replace it the part broke at the hinge.
