How to Troubleshoot & Replace Whirlpool AP6008376 / WP3399849 Thermal Fuse

Replaced Thermal Fuse 

I checked the continuity on the thermal fuse (which was blown) and knew that it needed to be replaced. This made me question why it blew (i.e. what caused it to fail). I checked continuity on the thermostat (high limit) as well as the thermostat for the element. Both passed a continuity test, so I removed the high limit thermostat to inspect it and could hear it rattling inside. This leads me to believe the spring inside had failed, so I replaced this thermostat as well. Put it back together and it is working like new. 

I replaced the thermal fuse. this was the easiest repair of anything I have repaired.

Diagnosed the fusible link was out. Decided while I was fixing that to take care of the thermostat and element. Took about 5 minutes and little money now its working like brand new. Dollar saved is a dollar earned 

Your video showing the replacement of a dryer heater element was very helpful. I removed the heater and inspected the heater coils as shown in the video. Coils looked good and tested okay. Tested the thermostat with a heat gun - it was working okay. Re-installed heater element according to the steps shown in the video. So, the problem was not in the heater. Without an electrical schematic, I had to hand trace the wiring harness from the heater. The main power connection came from a small plastic module on the back of a duct. I looked at your exploded diagram of this assembly and found out that this was a thermal fuse. I tested it and determined that it was blown. Your diagram was linked to a part list that was also linked to your shopping cart to allow me to order the fuse. I placed the order, and the part arrived on the third day. I installed it and the dryer now works again. 1. Diagnostic showed failed thermal fuse. Other components had continuity. Ordered fuse that took 13 days to arrive. Replaced fuse. Fuse blew again on first load. 2. Next order fortunately came within 3 days. Replaced thermal fuse and heating element (even though element looked perfect with no scorch marks indicating grounding). So far, 5 loads successfully dried. 

Tested all thermostats and thermal fuse. Thermal fuse failed test. Replaced thermostats and thermal fuse. Dryer works! 

Online watched a couple videos ordered parts, the son came over and installed. Hooray for great son, your website easy ordering, parts available no more wet clothes draped around the condo. And didn’t need to buy a new dryer!!. 

Picked the two highest percentage fixes and the first one worked!
