The Thermal Fuse is an OEM component for Whirlpool dryers. As a one-time-use safety component, the thermal fuse monitors heat levels and acts as an overload protector. This is a one-time use fuse that cannot be reset.

Causes of a bad thermal fuse include exposure to excessively high temperatures from a failure or blockage of another component like the venting system.

Symptoms of a bad thermal fuse are:

  • The dryer fails to heat at all
  • Randomly cutting out during cycles
  • Visible damage or melting of the fuse housing

This OEM part is also compatible with Maytag, KitchenAid, Jenn-Air, Amana, Magic Chef, Admiral, Norge, Roper, and Kenmore models.

Hello Tony. If the thermal fuse blows, the unit will not run. Check and make sure you have 240 volts coming to the dryer. Check and make sure the unit is not set to Air Fluff. Also check the heater and thermostats and see if they are good. You can test these with a multi-meter MA-DM1. They should read closed for continuity. Here is a link on how to use a multi-meter. http://forum.appliancepartspros.com/oven-repair-including-ranges-cooktops/4810-how-check-continuity-ohmmeter.html

John, That style fuse, should control the 120 VAC power supply to the motor, if it opens, the motor won't start or run. This style fuse is a heat sensitive device, so you'll need to start searching for a heater problem( clogged exhaust system, dirty lint filter, overload, etc. Thanks and Good Luck
