How to Troubleshoot & Replace Whirlpool AP6008321 / WP3391914 High Limit Thermostat

Tested the heating element, no resistance. Order a new one and installed it. Replace all sensors and installed them while I had the dryer apart. Working great. 

Replaced lid lock switch assembly by removing washer front panel and removing screws from right side of lid panel. Disconnected wiring harness fro defective lid switch and removed it. Installed new lid switch and re-assembled in reverse order. 

Replaced the element, thermal cut off kit and the high limit thermostat. The element was broken and that might have been the only issue but the dryer is 10 years old so while we had it apart we replaced them all. 

Awesome job APP. Our dryer was not heating on Wednesday. I did some research and ordered 6 parts in all on Thursday and requested overnight shipping. The heating element arrived on Friday which ended up being the part I needed. (I did have a repair man come out to diagnose it so I would know what was wrong with it.) When given a quote of $350 and a lead time of 2-3 days I decided to fix it myself using the $123.00 part having already watched some videos. It took me some time because I wasn't sure how everything was connected, but I did it. Also, I did find less expensive after market parts but the reviews were mixed. I went with the manufacturer part for piece of mind especially on an appliance that is used daily and a part that might be a potential fire hazard IMO. 

First, the thermal cut-off kit includes the high limit thermostat, do not order both parts from the graphic or you'll have an extra high limit thermostat. Installed a new heating element and thermal fuse - that fixed the problem of no heat in the dryer. Ordered these parts as there was a slim chance it was one of them (they are wired in with the heating element). I'll be replacing these next, my dryer is almost 20 years old so a few new parts are not unexpected. These are all easy repairs that anyone should be able to do. I will be returning the extra thermostat though - Appliance Parts Pros has an OUTSTANDING return policy!!!!! 

Replace temp disk. 

I replaced the parts that were in the chain of events like Coils, Igniter, Thermister, Thermal cut off. Eventually, it started working again. 

I took off the top and found the troubleshooting papers included by the manufacturer. (It's a KitchenAid, which is actually Whirlpool.) Then I used a continuity tester to check the thermostat and the thermal cut off. Both were open, i.e., dead. So I ordered those parts and bingo, now it works great. 

Replaced element with new one. 

Replaced t-stat , switch, and element. Only one thing went wrong and that was my order. I ordered one of each part. I received a kit apparently that was not brought to my attention before hand. But otherwise the parts were perfect and work great. Just wish I could have avoided paying for things I didn't need.
