How to Troubleshoot & Replace Whirlpool AP6006166 / WP2198202 Refrigerator Temperature Control Thermostat

Opened refrigerator door and disassembled the control box at the top.took out the control switch and replaced it with the new one.refrigerator works great and the whole job only took about 20 minutes.this saved me a service call witch would have cost me the price of the part and then some.thank you very much for the fast delivery,i did not loose any food either.thanks again 

After looking up symptom checkers and videos from AppliancePartsPros.com, I tested the Temperature Cold Control for the refrigerator and discovered that it only worked when adjusted in a certain position and had differing multimeter readings. After being replaced with a new cold control from AppliancePartsPros.com, the refrigerator has been working as good as new, and colder than ever in both fridge and freezer compartments. 

Based on the initial symptoms (wont start or run too long), I first diagnosed the compressor. Replaced it and still had the same issues. I watched a video showing multiple things that could be the issue, showing how to use a multimeter to test them. I tested my thermostat and it tested fine, but I was told to hit against it to see if the refrigerator comes to life. I tested hitting under the thermostat the next few days and it always jumped on when I hit it. I also experienced new symptoms: too cold fridge, staying on 24 hours) I ordered the part and it took 3 hours to fix but 2 hours of that was battling with the plastic tube over the thermostat wire (HINT: USE A SMALL AMOUNT OF DISH SOAP ON THE OPENING OF TUBE AND WIRE SO IT SLIDES EASIER I LEARNED THE HARD WAY) Back to running normal now, turning on and off by itself 

Replaced the main Cold Control in the refrigerator and the Defrost Thermostat in the freezer compartment. While I had the power off, I went ahead and replaced the compressor run capacitor, even though the old one still measured well within proper tolerance. The three parts were so reasonably priced, I figured I'd replace the three most likely culprits. After watching the very well-done videos on the website, I tackled the job and had all the parts replaced and the appliance back up and running in less than an hour. Everything seems to be running just fine now, with the temperatures in both the fridge and freezer exactly where they are supposed to be. I'll definitely be coming back to AppliancePartsPros.com for all my future needs. 

I installed a new cold control switch assembly. 

After having to tap the temp control to make my fridge cool, I ordered the thermostat control. Within 20 minutes, I was able to install the part and had my fridge up and running once again! The installation video was very helpful! P.S. Be careful when changing the plastic tubing for the temp sensing tube. Be sure the metal tube is as straight as possible. if possible heat the plastic with a hair dryer on "low heat" to make the plastic more pliable and the change easier. 

Banging on the control panel area in the fridge would start the compressor / cooling again, so I figured the defrost timer or thermostat (cold control) was sticking. Tried defrost timer first as it was cheaper, but that was not it. Then ordered the thermostat, and that has solved my issue. Both were simple to replace. I ordered the thermostat on Thursday with standard / cheapest shipping and although it indicated about a week for delivery, it was at my door Friday afternoon. AWESOME! The repair videos showed my exact model, which made me feel more comfortable with the repair. Glad I was able to repair as it sounds like there is a shortage of new appliances. 

Ordered, and replaced the adaptive defrost control, and the therostat control. 

Googled the problem, and the search led me to appliancepaetspros.com I watched the repair video and decided to order the part. My local repairman was going to charge me 45.00 labor and 98.00 plus tax for the part. Appliancepaetspros.com charged 51.00 for the part plus flat rate shipping. Totaled 58.00. The repair took me an hour to complete. I took my time and followed the video exactly. Starting and stoping it along the way. I am by no means a repair man or very handy. So if I can do it, so can you! And the customer service is top notch. So yourself a favor and call them. You won't regret it. 

Unit would not come out of defrost cycle, first thing I replaced was the 10 hour timer, You could turn the old timer clock wise and the cycle would start but hang up?? Replaced timer, no help, same problem? I then orderd the cold temp control, repalced the old in about 15 min. and have not had a problem since with the unit!!!! Thanks
