How to Troubleshoot & Replace Whirlpool AP6006166 / WP2198202 Cold Control

Replaced the thermostat from AppliacnePartsPros.com. Took the advice of many reviews to avoid non-OEM replacement parts and just get the real thing. So far the fridge is working great! Also used the installation video as a guide from AppliancePartsPros.com which was great because it was my exact model! 

I ordered the correct part from AppliancePartsPros, used their online video on how to replace the part, spent about 30 minutes replacing the part, and now everything is working correct. Replaced thermostat with the help of youtube video. 

The repair when very well. Thanks to the video provide at your web site. the fridge used in the video and almost identical to mine. So after watching the video twice, it just get on with it. The only issue I came across was that the location of the connections to the wires were a little different, but I figured it out. The whole job took less than an hour, that include cleaning the shelves and the freezer. Real happy with the result.

I looked at the "Appliance Parts Pros" site and narrowed it down to possibly 3 things. #1 was the "thermostat, # 2 was the "Starter Relay, # 3 was the Capacitor. I ordered all 3 for two reasons: 1 was this would be cheaper than an appliance repair call, 2 was because they were all simple to install if you can turn a screwdriver!! " Appliance Parts Pros" has videos showing the process for each! The only problem I had was getting the thermostat wires in the correct place since the replacement was a little different. That was easily solved by a Chat with "Appliance Parts Pros" and found out that it did not matter the position of the wires because there were only two wires and it is only a Switch. Thanks to "Appliance Parts Pros" . I am pretty sure it was the "Thermostat " causing the problem. 

Changed the thermostat 

Bought a new thermostat and door diffuser. The thermostat was a little different from the original as far as the power connections. Instead of being on tip top of each other they were side by side. After calling customer service found out it doesn't matter how you hook them up. 

Watched your "how to fix it" video and decided we'd give it a try. We are both in our 70s and find things a bit more challenging then in our past. However, the video was perfect and we followed it without issue. Refrigerator is running fine and we hope will continue on for a long time. Thank you for providing the visual for the repair and the product to do it with. 

Replacing the cold control solved the problem. While i was at it i also replaced the defrost timer and installed a new ice door.
