How to Troubleshoot & Replace Whirlpool AP6012920 / WP8531669 Water Inlet Valve Assembly

Bought a new valve from AppliancePartsPros.com and installed it myself. I also did some research on their website to confirm my suspicions. The replacement part was an exact fit and took me about 40 mins to install including gathering all the tools and then putting them away. Tools needed were a phillips-head screw driver, needle nose pliers, 1/4" wrench, adjustable wrench and some Teflon tape. 

Looked for parts on your website and was delighted to find videos that addressed both problems. I fixed per the vodeos. 

Had already replaced floater assembly a couple months ago, so inlet valve was most likely the culprit. Received part and replaced in under a halh hour. Working great. 

New fill valve and new heating element. 

Replaced water supply solenoid. I may suggest that removing 2 screws holding top of dishwasher in place allowing to slide dish washer out is the best way to access the valve. 

New part did not have to dishwasher out 

I replaced the fill valve with an OEM part. It was a tight fit under the washer (about 6 inches high) and disconnecting and reconnecting the water supply was most time consuming. I have a copper water connection and could only turn the ferrule nut about 1/16 turn before I had to reposition the wrench. 

After determining that this was the part that needed replaced I found it here. Seemed to be a good price and the item was in stock. Included with the description and pictures was a video showing the replacement of the actual part. It was an actual step by step that I memorized and followed to the letter. It was as simple as shown on the screen. The only gripe I have is that the video focused on the part and not on the contortions I was required to perform to get under the machine and do the actual work. That being said, I recommend AppliancePartsPros.com highly. This was not my first purchase and will not be my last. 

With difficulty, access below the door was not easy but doable. Video very helpful. Biggest hassle was the fact that I paid the extra $11.95 for expedited shipping ("our average time is 1.7 days" was the quote on the order form,) took 7 days. If you're not in a rush, had a houseful of family visiting, how bad do you need the dishwasher? 

I pressed the drain button and it drained out and refilled over a period of about 12 hours. So I knew that the water inlet valve wasn't closing all the way. First, I looked on the Sears website, which indicated the part was no longer available. Thank goodness I looked further and found the Appliance Parts Pros website, where I quickly found what I needed. I replaced the part and it fixed the problem. One more appliance kept out of the landfill and I only had to spend one tenth of the cost of a new dishwasher.
